Coffee Song from Indonesia

For my contribution of coffee song this Sunday, I am bringing you a music from Indonesia. The song is called Coffee, sung by a Filipina-American artist named Leanna Rachel, and a soundtrack from an Indonesian movie called Filosofi Kopi 2 (Coffee Philosophy). If you like Indie music, then you’ll probably like this one.

Pay attention to the surrounding area too. It was filmed in a coffee shop in Jakarta, Indonesia. Coffee shops are everywhere in Indonesia. You can hardly find a bar in Indonesia (with an exception of Bali due to the high demand for bars from foreign tourists), but you can find a coffee shop almost in every street. They range from big ones like the one pictured in the video or small ones that can fit only 1 table with 2 seats. They can be very expensive with so many drink choices with confusing names, or they can just have one two choices in the menu, black coffee or coffee with milk. Some coffee shops also function as an art studio or bookstore, or it can look very rustic as if entering the place can take you back to the 50s in the middle of a small village in a mountain somewhere in Indonesia.

Coffee shop is a place to socialize, mingle, hang out, meet new people, flirt, or meet new potential business partners. Some families even hang out in coffee shop on a Sunday after church perhaps. When you come to Indonesia, you have to visit a true Indonesian coffee shop. Of course, we have Starbucks too, but what’s the point when Starbucks is probably available in your country. Trust me, Starbucks in Indonesia looks exactly like Starbucks in some other countries, so I won’t recommend them.

Please enjoy the song. I hope everyone can open the link.

I know I should find a way to make it

Make it on my own this time

Stop making choices based on someone else’s dream

Believe my own

Oh it feels like I’m already on my way

Like I’m on my way

Every time I feel like I can’t take it

I remind myself it’s all inside

Stop for a moment, take a breath and close my eyes

See what that feels like

Oh I’ll try to get by without you in mind

Without you in mind

I miss the smell of your coffee

I miss waking you up early

When you had to be somewhere

Baby, you had me good

Baby, you had me good

Badai hatiku harus berlalu (the storm of my heart must pass),

kuatku percaya diriku (I strongly believe in myself)

Menyambut fajar pagi (welcoming the morning dawn),

aku masih rindu (I’m still missing)

Tapi harus pergi (but I must go)

Mesti merawat hati (you have to take care of yourself)

mesti menyayang diri (you have to love yourself)

Without you in mind

I miss the smell of your coffee

I miss waking you up early

When you had to be somewhere

Baby, you had me good

Baby, you had me good

I miss the smell of your coffee

I miss waking you up early

When you had to be somewhere

Baby, you had me good

Baby, you had me good

I miss waking you up early

I miss the smell of your coffee and cigarettes

I miss the smell of your coffee

  1. Welcome to Song Lyric Sunday Erlyn Olivia. The finger snapping is a carry over from the days of the Beat Nicks where they would recite poetry in Greenwich Village and the audience would snap their fingers in applause. I loved the song that you chose and Leanna Rachel has a wonderful voice.
