Moon (a haiku)

stare far into space

amidst the veil of darkness

find the faceless glow

#NaPoWriMo2021 – Day 17 Prompt is to write about the moon.

I can’t pass an invitation to write about the moon. Moon is such a magnet.

Fireflies

petite delight angels

your light is magnificent

like bedtime story wrapped in lullaby

but inside the glass cage

of countless days imprisoned

freedom then perished, broken over time

wings start to fall, consumed

and pain is beyond mended

no longer a bewitching dancing lights

the soul at last conclude

that time has been suspended

old lullaby will soon exit the night

In my heart

I know it is time

for next steps

a moment of silence to

catch breath, gather thoughts, stillness –

show must continue

doubt, regret

they come, no ending

let rain pours

why not befriend them – sometimes

we come to unpaved roads, but

treading through we must

solemnly greeting shadows

under the sun’s eyes

a confined heart tries to hide

Up to the Sky by Abda (Ahmad Abdul)

It’s Sunday and time for another Song Lyric Sunday from Jim Adams, with Hop, Jump, Leap, Pounce or Spring as the prompt.

I am so excited to bring you a song from Indonesia (in English), from an Indonesian singer called Ahmad Abdul. His voice is very unique, not to mention mesmerizing! You’ll understand when you listen to the video below.

Ahmad Abdul, also known with his new stage name Abda, is a 30-year old male singer, born in the city of Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province on the eastern side of Indonesia. He became famous due to his participation in the 2018 Indonesian Idol and won the runner up position at the end.

His song that I chose is called Up to the Sky, released in the early 2020. Up to the Sky was written by Abda himself, produced and arranged by Marco Steffiano, and released under the Universal Music Indonesia record label. Some have categorized the genre of the song as pop ballad with a touch of folk.

Abda had mentioned in a previous interview that Up to the Sky is a story of his life, describing his determination and fight to be where he is right now.

“This is a song that really describes me. Describes a struggle that is not instantaneous and easy. The achievements to date have passed through many obstacles. Ups and downs, being able to stand up, tasting the bitterness of a process again”

From Viva.co.id article in Bahasa Indonesia, 8 March 2020

The music video itself shows the singer and a child version of him exploring the nature. The MV was shot in the island of Bali. You can tell from the topography of the land in the video that it is in Indonesia, with its subtropical forest, river, hills. The song is also about Abda’s appreciation for nature. He is known to have done a lot of volunteer work of planting trees with local organizations in Indonesia.

“The video clip really takes the theme of natural environment and the whole process took place in Bali. There are mountains, waterfalls, and the hope is that they can also show the beauty of Indonesia, one of which is represented by Bali [in this music video]”

Hope you’ll enjoy the song.

I was on my own
Speaking to the wall
On the 16th floor
Feeling so alone
The rain starts to fall
Then I wrote a song
The days getting older
But I still have hope

About a life that asked for more
It's hard for sure
I'll give my best and all
Life is like a war
One thing that I know
I don't wanna jump and fall

So I'll keep flying up and high
Keeping my dreams up in the sky
Nobody's getting me to the ground
But if I do then I'm gonna stand up
Up to the sky
Up, up, to the sky

The rain keeps on falling
Pounding on my door
I don't care what's coming
As long as I have hope

About a life that asked for more
It's hard for sure
I'll give my best and all
Life is like a war
One thing that I know
I don't wanna jump and fall
Over and over again

So I'll keep flying up and high
Keeping my dreams up in the sky
Nobody's getting me to the ground
But if I do then I'm gonna stand up
Up to the sky
Up, up, to the sky

So I'll keep flying up and high
Keeping my dreams up in the sky
Even when I go to the ground
I'm gonna keep standing up
I'm gone, I'm gone up
I'm gonna keep standing up
I'm gone, I'm gone up

One day I'll be living my dreams
In the sky

HAPPY SUNDAY, EVERYONE!
